Magi and Zoey Burned a Christmas Tree
2022, b&w silver gelatin print
An experimental darkroom collaboration by Magioil Xing (★M★), this project merges two independent practices into a shared body of work through spontaneous overlap and cross-layering. In the darkroom, darkness reduces explanation and overthinking; decisions become physical, shaped by timing, distance, movement, and touch. Working in the same confined space, the duo expose and re-expose photographic paper with each other’s negatives, allowing images to collide before any fixed narrative emerges. The resulting prints resist singular interpretation, holding multiple viewpoints at once and opening ambiguous, shifting stories shaped by embodiment, chance, and mutual presence.
